Hansahaus is a prominent historic commercial building on Wielandplatz in central Weimar, close to the pedestrian streets of the old town. Its richly articulated, turn-of-the-20th-century façade adds an urban counterpoint to the city’s better-known Classical and Bauhaus architecture, with stacked windows, ornamental details and a strong roofline emphasizing its scale. From across the square, the building can be photographed as a backdrop to the monument of Enlightenment writer Christoph Martin Wieland, after whom the square is named; closer views reveal the textures and decorative rhythm of the façade.
