📍 From Fountain Court, United Kingdom
Hampton Court Palace stands on the north bank of the Thames opposite East Molesey, at the southwestern edge of London. Developed by Cardinal Thomas Wolsey and later taken over by Henry VIII, it combines red-brick Tudor courtyards with the formal Baroque palace created for William III and Mary II. Ornamental chimneys and the imposing western gatehouse define the Tudor skyline, while the garden-facing façades emphasize classical symmetry and long rows of windows. Inside, the Great Hall’s hammerbeam roof reveals the craftsmanship behind the Tudor court’s displays of power. The formal gardens offer a different sense of scale, with clipped yews, geometric planting and broad views back toward the palace. This contrast between enclosed brick courts and expansive royal landscapes gives Hampton Court much of its distinctive visual character.
