📍 United States
The Half Dome Visor is the projecting granite lip at the summit of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park, above Yosemite Valley in Mariposa County, California. It overhangs the sheer northwest face, where the mountain’s rounded crown gives way to an abrupt drop toward the valley floor. This contrast between smooth dome and exposed cliff is central to Half Dome’s recognizable profile. Seen from the neighboring summit slabs, the visor forms a narrow ledge against distant granite ridges, with hikers providing a striking measure of the landscape’s scale. The standard hiking approach reaches the summit by seasonal cables; a permit is required to use this route when the cables are raised.
