Half Dome is a granite dome in Yosemite Valley, United States, which towers over 4000 ft above the valley floor. It is an icon of the Yosemite National Park and a popular destination for tourists and climbers. The Yosemite Valley Trail leads to the base of the dome, where an exhausting climb awaits. The trail is accessible in summer and with appropriate gear and experienced route finding, one may be able to summit in day. It is advised to come prepared with food and water, a headlamp and appropriate clothing. Once you reach the famous Half Dome rock face, the last 400 feet of the climb requires the use of two metal cables. The cables offer support and a firm grip as one ascends the steep rock face. The views from the top are breathtaking and encompass the vast valleys of Yosemite National Park.
