Half Dome is one of the most iconic rock formations in Yosemite Valley, United States. This impressive dome-shaped granite rock stands at 8,839 feet and is one of the most popular attractions in the park. Hiking to the top is an amazing experience. An 8.2 mile hike leads you up to the summit and rewards you with breathtaking views of the Sierra Nevada mountains, as well as a look down into the famous Yosemite Valley. There is also an easier 4-mile hike to the subdome, with views of Half Dome looming over you. If you decide to take the strenuous hike up to the top, be sure to bring a pair of gloves and some strength. A permit is required for all day hikers in an effort to reduce overcrowding.
