📍 From Inside, China
Guo Bin Da Lou, also known as Cathay Mansions, is a historic building within the Jin Jiang Hotel complex on Maoming South Road, in Shanghai’s former French Concession. Originally built as apartments during the city’s interwar expansion, it reflects the international influences that shaped this district before becoming part of the hotel. Its tall brick façade, strong vertical lines and Gothic-inspired detailing distinguish it from the lower villas and tree-lined streets nearby. The contrast between the imposing tower and the hotel’s landscaped grounds gives photographs a clear sense of the building’s scale and its place in prewar Shanghai.
