The Guards Memorial is dedicated to the members of the five regiments of the Foot Guards. It stands in the Whitehall Gardens, close by to Horse Guards Parade in London, UK. The memorial was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and unveiled in 1937. It is hewn out of Portland stone and set in a stepped design with a niche filled with the regimental eagle from the Coldstream Guards. The memorial is contains plaques inscribed with the names of 19,353 of the members of the Foot Guards who lost their lives in WWI. The memorial is also flanked by two statues, one of a female Peace symbolizing Victory, and one of a male soldier symbolizing Duty and Sacrifice.
