Grotta, also known as Umělá jeskyně (“Artificial Cave”), is a romantic garden folly in Havlíčkovy sady, the landscaped park surrounding Gröbe Villa in Prague’s Vinohrady district. Created as part of the 19th-century estate, it imitates a weathered cavern through rugged artificial rock, shadowed niches, irregular openings and grotto-like textures. Its theatrical design contrasts with the villa’s formal architecture and the nearby vineyard. For photographs, the arches provide natural frames, while side light emphasizes the coarse surfaces and deep recesses; foliage around the structure adds vivid color in autumn and softens the stonework in spring and summer.
