Grotta Monaca is a coastal sea cave cut into the limestone cliffs just east of Torre dell'Orso on the Salento coast, part of the Adriatic shoreline of Puglia. Its visual interest comes from the raw, eroded rock face framing a dark mouth that opens onto vivid coastal water; wave-polished textures, horizontal bedding planes and pockets of vegetation in the cliff create strong contrasts of rough stone and smooth sea. Photographs benefit from low angles along the sand or from a short hop by dinghy to capture the cave’s scale against swimmers or paddleboarders, and from the way sunlight skimming the water produces green-blue reflections that illuminate the cave entrance. The site sits within the famously scenic bay near Torre dell’Orso, so the cave is often seen together with the twin sea stacks that define the shoreline.
