The Grotta di Lord Byron (Lord Byron's Cave) is a beautiful sea cave situated on the Ligurian coast of Italy. It is named in honour of the British poet who used to come here for inspiration. The entrance to the cave is protected by an iron gate and can only be accessed by boat. The entrance itself is breathtaking and full of light reflections, given the favourable weather conditions. Inside the cave, a spectacular rocky arch frames the light entering from the open sea. The atmosphere inside the cave allows you to feel a unique serenity and peace, as if the place was under a special enchantment. Inside, you can also spot various ancient galleries, and schools of fish swimming around. It also offers a spectacular view of the village of Portovenere and its ancient medieval tower. The ideal time to visit is during summer and autumn, when the sun shines directly into the entrance of the cave.
