📍 From North Bridge, United States
The Grave of British Soldiers lies beside the Old North Bridge in Concord, Massachusetts, within Minute Man National Historical Park. It marks the burial of two British soldiers killed here on April 19, 1775, during one of the opening clashes of the American Revolutionary War. The memorial carries a verse by James Russell Lowell beginning, “They came three thousand miles and died,” acknowledging the loss of men fighting far from home. The modest stone marker, reconstructed wooden bridge, and Concord River form a setting that contrasts with the nearby Minute Man statue, placing British casualties within a landscape more often remembered for colonial resistance.
