The South Rim at Grand Canyon Village, in northern Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park, is the canyon’s main visitor hub, where a pine-forested plateau drops into a vast landscape of layered cliffs and buttes. Carved by the Colorado River and its tributaries, the canyon exposes a long geological history, with resistant rock forming sheer walls above softer, sloping layers. Mather Point and Yavapai Point provide broad views across branching side canyons toward the North Rim; shifting shadows reveal the depth between ridges that can appear flattened in photographs. Within the village, the historic El Tovar Hotel and the Pueblo-inspired Hopi House reflect the development of tourism here, while the Rim Trail connects viewpoints along the canyon edge.
