📍 United Kingdom
Government Offices Great George Street is a monumental government office block in Westminster, best known as the home of HM Treasury. It stands between Whitehall and St James’s Park, immediately north of Parliament Square. Designed by John Brydon and completed under Henry Tanner, the building uses the grand scale and elaborate stonework of the Edwardian Baroque style to express the authority of central government. Its pale Portland-stone façades combine deeply textured masonry at street level with long, regular rows of windows and imposing entrances. Looking east along Great George Street, the frontage draws the eye toward the Elizabeth Tower at the Palace of Westminster, placing Britain’s financial administration and Parliament within the same streetscape.
