📍 From Örgrytevägen, Sweden
Götzis Towers are two twin towers in Johanneberg, Sweden. The stone-clad towers stand out among the modern surroundings and are visible from afar. The two towers, 25 meters tall, were built between 1754 and 1756. The towers were part of the massive bastion Fort Pitea, built at the borders of the city following the Swedish conquest of the area in 1660. Visiting the site, travelers can climb the 200 steps to the top of the west tower (the only one open to visitors) to enjoy the beautiful views of the city, the surrounding countryside and the vast River Göta älv. From the view platform, visitors can also spot the old stables, barracks, a cemetery, the moat and the old drawbridge. Götzis Towers are the only survivor of the Fort Pitea complex and remain standing in the same place where it was hundreds of years ago.
