
The Gotokuji Temple in Setagaya City, Japan is a historic temple with a long history stretching back to 1624. The main attraction at the temple is a structure located on the grounds known as a “beckoning cat” or “maneki-neko”. It is believed that rubbing the head of the maneki-neko statue will bring good luck. Inside the main hall of the temple is a tradition of making “chimaki” or rice cakes, which are made to thank the gods that have blessed you. Gotokuji Temple also features a Japanese garden and a bamboo grove. It is a great destination for travelers wanting to experience traditional Japanese culture.
