The Golden Gate Bridge is a world-famous span of steel and red-orange span connecting San Francisco to Marin County, California. Spanning the Golden Gate strait, the bridge is an incredible marvel of construction and engineering, standing at an impressive 746 feet above the water. Built in 1937, the bridge is just under 1.8 miles long and 90 feet wide. Although the bridge is most spectacular in the background of the city skyline, the best way to appreciate its beauty is on foot or by bicycle. Visitors can walk or cycle across the bridge's pedestrian walkway and there are also tours and photographic opportunities available from the bridge's helipad. Despite the bridge's age, it has stood tall and strong through various natural disasters and is open to the public year-round.
