The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most iconic structures in the United States, connecting San Francisco to the Pacific coast. Completed in 1937, it stretches over 4,200 feet, reaching a height of 746 feet at its highest point. It is an engineering marvel, featuring a visually-striking single-span suspension bridge with two towers reaching more than 725 feet tall. The iconic red-orange shade of the bridge comes from primer paint added to protect the steel structure from corrosion. In 1987, the bridge was declared a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
