Glendalough Roundtower
📍 From Inside, Ireland
Located in the stunning landscape of the Upper Lake valley in County Wicklow, the Glendalough Roundtower is an impressive and iconic structure that dates back to the early medieval period. Standing at almost 30m tall, the Roundtower is one of Ireland’s best-preserved and most recognisable ancient monuments. Built between the 6th and 8th centuries, the tower is believed to have functioned as a watchtower and a storehouse for the monastery at Glendalough. It is a solid cylindrical structure made of stonework and is topped by a unique ‘cantilevered roof’. The tower can be accessed by hikers who wish to explore this beautiful part of Ireland and the views from the top are spectacular.
