📍 United States
The Glen Canyon Dam is a marvel of engineering on the Colorado River in Coconino County, United States. Built between 1956 and 1966, it created Lake Powell, a reservoir stretching 186 miles (300 km) along the Arizona-Utah border and providing hydroelectric power and irrigation to the Southwest. The spectacular 650-ft (198 m) high dam boasts an iconic profile, with a sleek curved façade of brick, concrete and steel. Visitors can take a tour of the dam to see the inner workings, as well as the magnificent views from the top. There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy at Lake Powell, including boating, fishing, and admiring the beautiful scenery that frames the majestic canyon.
