Gjógv Kirkja Church
📍 From Viewpoint, Faroe Islands
Gjógv Kirkja Church is a charming whitewashed chapel located in Gjógv, a remote village on the eastern coast of Eysturoy island in the Faroe Islands. Set in a natural harbor by the sea, the chapel’s steeple produces an iconic silhouette against the Forean landscape. Everyone is welcome to explore the area's natural beauty and serenity. The church was constructed in 1826 and owned by the local congregation Eiðis, who also runs the adjoining cemetery. Inside, the ceiling and walls are decorated with plenty of historic artifacts, including choral books, faroese bible and paintings. From the outside, the path circling the chapel provides spectacular views of the dramatic surrounding countryside including the Atlantic Ocean.
