Giardini Naxos is the coastal town and bay on Sicily’s eastern shore that sits below the hillside approaches to Taormina and marks the site of the ancient Greek settlement of Naxos. The town’s long promenade, marina and sandy-to-pebble beaches frame a shallow curved bay with views that often include the layered silhouette of Mount Etna beyond Taormina. Visually notable are the contrast of pale beach textures against dark volcanic slopes, the horizontal sweep of the bay that makes for strong compositional lines, and small fishing boats and waterfront cafés that punctuate foregrounds.
