The Giardini di Augusto are terraced public gardens in Capri town, set above the island’s steep southern coast near the Certosa di San Giacomo. Created in the early 20th century for German industrialist Friedrich Alfred Krupp, the gardens combine formal paths and flower beds with Mediterranean vegetation. Their terraces open onto two defining Capri views: the Faraglioni sea stacks rising offshore and the tight stone switchbacks of Via Krupp descending toward Marina Piccola. The contrast between clipped greenery, bright seasonal flowers, pale limestone and deep blue water gives the site its distinctive visual rhythm, while the elevated parapets reveal the dramatic scale of Capri’s cliffs. Access to Via Krupp itself can be restricted because of rockfall, but its zigzag course remains visible from above.
