📍 Russia
The General Staff Building in Sankt-Peterburg is an architectural masterpiece designed by Carlo Rossi, completed in 1828. Its elegant Neoclassical façade stretches 580 meters and forms a grandiose crescent shape, strategically opposite the renowned Winter Palace across Palace Square. An iconic centerpiece is the massive triumphal arch, topped by a striking sculptural group of a chariot driven by a winged figure of Glory. The building has been repurposed to house part of the Hermitage Museum's collection. Photo-travelers will find the intricate details of the arch and the contrasting perspectives of the square and the Winter Palace compelling. Lighting on the facade provides dramatic shadow plays, enhancing photos, especially during sunrise and sunset.
