Gebel el Silsila is an archaeological site located in Markaz Kom Ombo in Egypt. It is home to a Roman-era quarry and a temple complex that was built for the Theban triad of gods – Amun, Chons and Mut. The complex includes several sandstone quarries with colossal remains of statues, temples, aisle chapels and fountains. It is also the source of sandstone and red granite used by the Pharaohs in many of their tombs and monuments. Visitors to this stunning site can explore various ancient monuments, as well as inspect the two main quarries. Many of the surrounding cliffs feature rock-carved statues of Thutmoside Pharaohs and their families. The gorges are dotted with numerous clay and ostraca, providing unique insights into ancient quarries. Visitors to this site may also spot some tomb entrances and rock-hewn foundations of Old Kingdom chapels.
