Gauja River, located in the north eastern corner of Latvia, is absolutely stunning. This majestic river winds along untouched nature for close to 60 miles, offering a variety of landscapes for travelers to explore and photographers to capture. It is the longest river in Latvia and offers rapids, meandering curves, sandbanks, small lakes, and endless scenic views. Alongside the river, one can see forests and meadows that are dotted with centuries-old castles and manors, making it an especially unique place to visit. There is a Gauja National Park as well as an iconic sandstone cliff that towers 160 metres above the river. You can experience the wilderness of the area by taking a riverboat tour, or rent a kayak to explore and admire the region's wildlife, varieties of birds, and a diverse landscape. Boating and fishing are also popular in the Gauja River. One can also hike or bike around the valley of the Gauja, an excellent way to explore the area and take stunning photographs.
