The infamous Gate at Auschwitz-Birkenau in Brzezinka (also known as Auschwitz II), Poland, is one of the most symbolic and important memorial sites in the country. Exceeding even the most savage expectations of Nazi Germany's terror, the site stands as one of the darkest parts of world history. Once part of the Auschwitz concentration camp, the passing of prisoners through the gates reveals the scale of this atrocity as a large part of the horror lay in the great numbers of people that were cruelly taken with death and suffering at their destinations.
