Gamla Stan, situated in Norrmalm, is a must-visit place in Stockholm, Sweden. Situated right at the heart of the city, it covers an area of 13 hectares and is surrounded by water. Gamla Stan is the old town of Stockholm, dating back to the 13th century, and is home to some of the oldest architecture and buildings in Stockholm. Some of the highlights are the 12th century Storkyrkan Cathedral and the Royal Palace, located in the north, along with the beautiful cobblestone streets. Visitors can also explore the many restaurants and boutiques, with an array of Swedish treats to sample and buy. Don't forget to explore the "narrowest alley in the world", Mårten Trotzigs Gränd, which measures only 90 cm at its narrowest, and head up to the free observation deck at Stadshuset for great views of the city. Gamla Stan is a great place to explore and get a real sense of Stockholm.
