Funningsfjørður is the narrow fjord below Funningur on the northeastern side of Eysturoy. Steep, grass-covered mountains descend directly toward the water, emphasizing the compact scale of the village and its sheltered shoreline. From Funningur, the fjord forms a strong natural leading line toward the outer coast, while scattered houses and the small turf-roofed wooden church add human detail to the layered slopes. In calm conditions, reflections soften the dark water; shifting cloud and low northern light continually reshape the ridges and green terrain.
