Ft. Macon is a well-preserved 19th century civil war masonry fortification located in Atlantic Beach, United States. The fort is best known for its four-tiers of heavy cannons and earthen walls that were used to protect the Beaufort – Morehead City area during the Civil war. Visitors can explore these walls and browse the displays showcasing the history of the fort. This includes weapons and equipment used by the soldiers as well as artifacts from both the Civil War and World War II. A popular spot for photographers is the overlook on the seaward side, where visitors can capture stunning views of the Beaufort-Morehead City waterfront. Nearby, the public beach offers more photographic opportunities.
