The Fremont Bridge is located over the Willamette River in Portland, United States. It is a major crossing for traffic, pedestrians, and cyclists alike. The bridge is a cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 817 feet and total length of 1,404 feet. Its construction began in November 1974 and it opened to vehicular traffic in November 1973. The Fremont Bridge has 479 cables that support the deck of the bridge. From the bridge, one can enjoy a stunning view of Downtown Portland. The bridge is also home to a well-known 4-ton sculpture featuring a giant steel salmon, created by sculptor Raymond Kaskey. There has also been a tradition of hanging locks on one of the cables of the bridge. The Fremont Bridge is one of the most important landmarks in Portland and an impressive sight to behold!
