The Römer is Frankfurt’s historic city hall complex fronting the broad medieval square known as Römerberg in the Altstadt. A cluster of narrow, gabled timber-framed and stone façades—visually unified into a civic ensemble—served as the municipal seat for centuries and remains a symbol of the city’s public life. Its stepped gables, rows of windows and ornamental façades create strong vertical rhythm and symmetry that photograph well from the square; reflections appear in puddles after rain and framed shots work from the Konstantinsplatz–Paulskirche axis. Much of the ensemble seen today was rebuilt after wartime destruction, so contrasts between restored façades and the open square speak to Frankfurt’s layered urban history. Respect typical civic protocols when photographing official buildings and events.
