Fountains Abbey is a remarkable medieval ruin located in the Yorkshire Dales, in North Yorkshire, United Kingdom. The abbey was founded in 1132 by a group of Benedictine monks who had left their parent monastery in France. It is a World Heritage Site and one of the most visited sites in the UK, attracting more than 450,000 visitors each year. Visitors to the site can explore the surviving ruins, walk across its four acres of rolling grassland, and wander the adjoining Studley Royal Water Garden, filled with classical and neo-classical sculptures and ponds. At the site, you can also visit an interactive exhibition and museum, wander in the Victorian farmyard and take a guided tour through the medieval ruines.
