Fortrose Cathedral
📍 United Kingdom
Fortrose Cathedral stands in the heart of Fortrose on Scotland’s Black Isle, marking the town’s medieval importance as the seat of the bishops of Ross. Founded in the 13th century and built from warm red sandstone, the surviving ruins include finely worked Gothic arches, window tracery and parts of the choir and chapter house. Weathered masonry and old memorial stones give the site a strong sense of texture, while open window spaces frame changing views of sky and surrounding rooftops. Low sunlight brings out the stone’s reddish tones and the depth of its carved details.
