Fort Rammekens is an impressive battlement located in Ritthem, Netherlands. It was built in 1619 to defend the entrance of the Veerse Meer harbour. Today it is a great place to explore and learn more about the Netherlands' maritime history. Visitors can access the main tower, walk the galleries, cross the drawbridge and the moat, and admire the sights of the surrounding countryside. The fort has served as a museum since 2006, complete with a diorama that explains the fort's history and significance. Outside the walls is a small beach and walking path, leading to the nearby Meikens island. It makes for a pleasant outing for those looking for a bit of history and a scenic hike.
