The Fort of São João Baptista (or Peniche Fortress) is a three-tiered star fort located in Peniche, Portugal. Built in the 17th century, the fort stands on a rocky island off the coast of the port city, protecting it from enemy forces. The fort was originally built as an observation outpost, but has since been used as a prison and to protect the local fishing industry.
