📍 From Fountain, France
Fontenay Abbey-Forge is a former Cistercian monastery founded in 1145 in Marmagne, France. It was destroyed in the revolution and left as a ruin until restoration began in 1909. Today, visitors can explore the impressive remains, including the 12th-century Romanesque church, surrounded by oak trees and preserved gardens dating back to the Middle Ages. The cloister, dormitory, forge, refectory and other buildings that made up the abbey complex are also open to explore. Visitors can also enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, including the woodlands and the nearby town of Marmagne. The abbey remains an important spiritual and cultural landmark in the region, and its ruins a reminder of the power of faith in medieval times.
