📍 Italy
Fontana Pretoria is one of Palermo's most iconic and visited landmarks. The fountain was built in 1554 as part of Ferdinand Pignatelli's garden, and it was relocated to the city center in 1871 during the reign of Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. Fontana Pretoria is composed of 16 statues in total, each one symbolizing the different parts of the earth and underworld, including Neptune, Earth and the Goddesses of Love, among others. It also has four colors of marble inlaid in the basin and the statues, a feature that makes it stand out from other fountains. An interesting detail is that it also contains a bear, alluding to Palermo's civic symbol. Fontana Pretoria is a must-see when in Palermo, a true gem of the city!
