Fontana del'Ovato is a fountain situated in the Italian town of Tivoli located some 30 kilometers east of Rome. It is part of the Villa d'Este, a villa located on a hill in the center of town. It is widely considered to be a masterwork of the renowned Renaissance architect, Pirro Ligorio, and is one of the most iconic landmarks in the town. The 18th century terraced gardens of the villa form a stunning backdrop to the fountain, which is an ornate carving depicting a reclining classical figure atop a pedestal. The fountain is equipped with a water nozzle at the base which creates an impressive, misty effect which adds to the whimsical spirit of this beautiful landmark. Visitors can wander the manicured gardens of the villa, which feature finely crafted grottoes and waterworks along with impressive fountains, terraces and other original features. It is a must-see when passing through Tivoli and makes for a perfect place to capture the charm of the region.
