A local favorite crafted by Pietro Tacca in the 17th century, this bronze boar statue draws daily visitors eager to secure a bit of luck. Placed at the edge of the bustling Mercato Nuovo, it’s affectionately known as “Il Porcellino,” though it really depicts a wild boar rather than a pig. Tradition says you should rub the snout to ensure a return trip to Firenze, then place a coin in its open jaws; dropping it through the grate below is believed to bring good fortune. Surrounding market stalls offer souvenirs and leather goods, making the area a convenient stop for shopping. Don’t forget to snap a photo with the boar’s iconic shine, kept gleaming by countless hopeful hands.
