The Fischauktionshalle, located in Hamburg, Germany is a popular site for tourists. This former fish market and auction hall has deep roots in Hamburg's history and has been a fixture in Hamburg since 1891. Located on the Hamburg harbour, it is one of the city's oldest architectural monuments and a symbol of Hamburg's mercantile might. The Fischauktionshalle offers stunning views of the harbour and of the nearby Elbe river. Visitors can stroll around the picturesque building, a highly ornate example of Norddeutscher Backsteingotik architecture, and observe the 19th-century frescoes, storehouses and chimneys. The market has a statue of St. Nicholas and four copper panels, each depicting a nautical scene. As well as touring the sights, tourists can watch the auction, and attend occasional events such as open-air plays or music concerts.
