Findlater Castle is a ruin located in Banffshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. The castle sits on a rocky headland near Cullen which is considered to be one of the most beautiful and romantic ruins in Scotland. It is believed to have been built in the 13th century by Clan Findlater of Clan Gordon. The Findlater family was one of the most powerful families in this area and kept the castle until the mid-17th century. It was then passed onto the Ogilvie family who left it abandoned in 1855. Today, the castle is a popular spot for visitors and photographers, offering stunning views of Cullen Bay, the surrounding countryside and the North Sea. The visitor can climb to the castle and explore the ruins, including the keep, chapel, courtyard and the other remaining buildings. Visiting the surrounding small village is also well worth it during a trip to Findlater Castle.
