📍 From Inside, United States
The Field Museum is Chicago’s major natural history museum, standing on the lakefront Museum Campus beside Shedd Aquarium and near Adler Planetarium. Founded from collections assembled for the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, it later took the name of benefactor Marshall Field and moved into its present Neoclassical building in 1921. Its vast holdings span fossils, anthropology, geology, and biodiversity; signature displays include SUE, one of the most complete Tyrannosaurus rex specimens, and Máximo, a cast of a giant titanosaur that fills Stanley Field Hall. Outside, the long columned façade and broad steps create strong symmetry, while wider views place the monumental building against Lake Michigan and Chicago’s modern skyline.
