The Fernsehturm bei Volmershoven in Alfter, Germany is an impressive structure that can be seen from countless places in the city. It stands at a height of 166 meters, and consists of a pillar, a four-legged platform, and a metal sphere crowned by a three-legged crown. The crown is brightly illuminated at night, and is a landmark across the city. It was designed by renowned architect Helmut Jahn in the 1960s and is the oldest of four such towers in Germany. Visitors can ascend the tower via an elevator, and from the viewing platform, there are amazing panoramic views of the city for up to 35 kilometers away. The interior of the sphere is also open to visitors and hosts exhibitions about the site and its history. There is a cafe located at the base of the tower, perfect for a relaxing break from the sights of the city.
