Fatih occupies Istanbul’s historic peninsula, framed by the Golden Horn, the Bosphorus and the Sea of Marmara, with the surviving land walls marking its western edge. Once the core of Byzantine Constantinople and later Ottoman Istanbul, the district contains Hagia Sophia, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, Topkapı Palace, the Grand Bazaar and the Süleymaniye Mosque, alongside the layered neighborhoods of Fener and Balat.
