Fasil Ghebbi is a fortified palace compound in Gondar, Ethiopia. The castle was built from the 1630s and was the residence of Ethiopia’s emperors. Inside the compound sits the most prominent palace, Iyasu's Palace of Fasilades, and seven other more subordinate structures situated in a large park. The walls, to a height of 10 meters, are impressive and prominent, a fortress containing palaces, churches, and monasteries. The most significant remaining structure are remarkable stone edifices, still fresh in color, as well as ancient buildings in a traditional Ethiopian style. The courtyard walls and towers, with battlements, and loopholes all ensure a good defense. The ceilings and walls are decorated with paintings and panels of plasterwork, with terraces providing stunning views of the countryside.
