Faro Monumental

Faro Monumental or Monumental Lighthouse is located in La Serena, Chile. Built in 1853, this neoclassical lighthouse stands 21 metres tall, making it the tallest landmark in the city of La Serena. Its original lenses were installed in 1865, and they remain in place to this day. From the top of the Faro, visitors can enjoy a splendid view of the bay entrance, which leads to La Serena. This is also a great place for bird-spotting, as a variety of seabirds and shorebirds can often be seen wheeling and soaring above the rocky cliffs. Locals enjoy picnicking in the tranquil surroundings and visitors can take a tour of the lighthouse, including the viewpoint at the top.
