The Faro de Melilla la Vieja stands on the fortified promontory of Melilla’s historic citadel, overlooking the Mediterranean and the city’s harbor. Its compact white tower rises directly from the ochre stone ramparts, linking Melilla’s maritime role with the defensive architecture of the old town. From the surrounding walls, the lighthouse can be framed against open water or photographed as part of a layered scene of bastions, cliffs, breakwaters, and port activity. The contrast between pale masonry, weathered fortifications, and deep blue sea is especially characteristic of this corner of the Spanish city on the North African coast.
