📍 From Lachine Canal National Historic Site, Canada
The Farine Five Roses and Lachine Canal National Historic Site in Montréal, Canada is of great significance to the national identity and history of the country. From 1825 to 1970, the canal enabled commercial navigation between Lake Saint-Louis and the port of Montréal, as well as the industrialization of the city. The Farine Five Roses flour mill, constructed in 1905, is the only facility of its kind preserved in all of Canada and serves as a reminder of the country's industrial past. The site also features St. Gabriel's Church, which was built in 1825 and is the oldest surviving building in Montréal. Visitors can explore the canal banks, taking in the stunning views of the canal's atmospheric landscape and views of downtown Montréal in the background. The site is open year-round, and visitors can take advantage of interpretive activities and events throughout the year.
