Faraglioni di Sant'Andrea
📍 Italy
The Faraglioni di Sant'Andrea are a cluster of sandstone sea stacks rising just off the small bay of Sant'Andrea on Elba’s northwestern coast. Geologically sculpted by wind and salt, their warm ochre faces are pocked with honeycomb weathering (tafoni) and pierced by arches and caves that give the formations a sculptural, layered texture. Visually they register as a strong foreground against clear turquoise water and a low, tree-lined shoreline; on calm days the stacks mirror softly in the sea, emphasizing their vertical scale relative to the tiny pebble beach. Walkable coastal paths and rocky vantage points along the shore frame compositions that play color and contrast—golden stone, deep blue sea, and green Mediterranean scrub—while intimate tidal pools reveal close-up textures.
