The islands of St. Lucia are part of the Caribbean's Lesser Antilles, and are renowned for their stunning volcanic mountains, rainforest-clad interior and picturesque coastline. Founded by the French in 1660, the islands have a rich culture and history, proudly showcased in the many UNESCO designated sites that dot the island. Visitors can explore the lush jungles of the interior on a canopy tour of the rainforest, or take a dip in the clear waters of Rodney Bay. As the country is faced eastwards towards the Atlantic Ocean, the beaches are perfect for surfing and wind-surfing. The vibrant capital, Castries, is an exciting blend of colonial structures, and beachfront bars and restaurants. Visitors can further explore the coastline through deep sea fishing or on a kayaking trip to the nearby Maria Islands. St. Lucia's island location means that its beaches and national parks are located just a few minutes from each other, making travelling easy and enjoyable.
